Job Description

Under the direction of the assigned Altra Business System Leader, the Altra Business System Specialist (Continuous Improvement Specialist) is responsible to actively participate in continuous improvement activities of New Hartford. The ABS Specialist also designs and builds continuous improvement projects - fixtures, flow racks, assembly fixtures, etc.  in our New Hartford plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Identifies and actively participates in the completion of continuous improvement projects.
  • Builds continuous improvement, flow,5S projects out of 80/20, creform or similar materials.
  • Safe use and mastery skill of hand tools, power tools, drill press, chop saw, drills, table saw, router, etc. required.
  • Help the cells perform 5S to ensure the work area is always kept clean and orderly and all visual KPI (Key Performance Indicators) tracking boards are updated at the required time interval.
  • Create standard work combination sheet, standard work sheet, time observations.
  • Perform Standard work audits; adherence to standard work combination sheet and standard work sheet and provide positive feedback of abnormal conditions to Team Leaders and managers.
  • Work with the team members, coach, train and support shop floor associates in ABS principles and to identify VA and NVA activities in processable to and be self-motivated.
  • Actively participates to help solve problems and create environment for elimination of NVA activities.
  • Create work orders for maintenance for ABS activities and follow up.
  • Adheres to all safety rules and report questionable conditions.
  • Associate will lead by example and provide coaching to all associates as needed. Examples include but are not limited to safe work practices, time management, 5S of workspace, ABS principles.
  • Organize and maintain ABS build area.
  • Follow ABS Technical Associate daily standard work and reports daily activities to supervisor.
  • Complete other projects / duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School education or GED, required.
  • Technical school, preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing related job experience, preferably including the demonstrated ability to successfully handle new responsibilities.
