Job Description

The Buyer Planner is responsible for all aspects of purchasing, including the selection, negotiation, and purchase of products and services to support the company’s manufacturing and administrative functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate and qualify suppliers of materials for production and non-production items as required for the commodities assigned by the Purchasing Supervisor.
  • In accordance with purchasing strategy, develop long term relationships with suppliers in order to avoid material shortages while assuring best value and expected on-time delivery performance.
  • Manage existing stocking programs/consignments programs as assigned by the Purchasing Supervisor.
  • Procure material based on MRP driven requirements for commodity groups as assigned by the Purchasing Supervisor.
  • Manage the procurement request of non-product items based upon the request of the other departments. This includes tooling and supplying items.
  • For assigned commodity groups, keep running tab on purchased prices variances take all necessary steps to reduce or eliminate unfavorable variances.
  • Keep management informed of Material Review Board dispositions of Non-conforming purchased material.
  • Work with Engineering department to source new material and create additional sources for existing items.
  • Complete assigned special projects as directed by the Purchasing Supervisor.

Job Requirements

Critical Competencies

  • Must exhibit excellent business sense.
  • Working knowledge of the products and services produced by the Division.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with peer group and next level of supervision.
  • Good interpersonal and communicative skills
  • Experience in ASK MANMAN, MRP II and SAP preferred.
  • PC literate (word and excel).
  • Experience with reading an engineering drawing.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from a two-year institution, or two years of purchasing experience required.
  • Course work in professional purchasing, contracts and/or inventory management.
  • Two years experience in purchasing, manufacturing, or inventory control required.

Physical Demand and Work Environment:          

Work environment Office environment with 10-20% time spent evaluating foundry, maintenance, and machine shop requirements. This includes occasional exposure to noise levels at or above 85 decibels and dust particles.  Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required to be worn during times on the production floor.  Core hours would be 7am-4pm.
