Job Description

The Corporate Development Manager working under the purview of the VP of Corporate Development, will be responsible for supporting all aspects of acquisition and divestiture transactions, including joint ventures and alliances.  This person will be required to work extensively with cross-functional teams in the corporate office and at Altra’s various operating companies (OpCo).  The Corporate Development Manager will also assist with corporate reporting requirements, financial and business analysis and other special projects as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support the Development of a Robust Acquisition Pipeline:

  • Aid development and deployment of Altra’s acquisition pipeline process by teaming up with OpCo leadership teams to understand and develop strategic direction and acquisition priorities.
  • Support target identification activities and help to manage a comprehensive Corporate acquisition pipeline by utilizing Altra’s proprietary digital tools.
  • Work with OpCo Champions and VP of Corporate Development to evaluate opportunities.
  • Support the evaluation of potential M&A adjacency attractiveness conducting product and market research, competitive analysis and opportunity and risk assessments.

Serve as an Integral Member of Altra’s Acquisition and Divestiture Team:

  • Assist with screening, analysis, and development of strong business cases for each potential acquisition.
  • Support operational due diligence, including market strength, technology analyses, competitive position, and operational effectiveness to validate growth and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Support financial due diligence, including current and projected performance expectations, financial transaction modeling, and synergy analysis.
  • Lead/support valuation modeling and provide valuation expertise to participating OpCos.
  • Support internal preparation for divestitures and participate in the execution of sale processes in accordance with Altra’s Divestiture process.
  • Support integration planning or post-divestiture support and execution.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of data and information used for executive briefings, investor relations, monthly/quarterly business status reports, and Altra Board of Director’s meetings.
  • Perform market and competitive analyses and benchmarking.
  • Special projects as assigned by the VP of Corporate Development and Executive VP of Marketing and Business Development.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

  • BS, BA or BBA in Engineering, Business, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, or other relevant discipline. 
  • Advanced degree (MS or MBA) is preferred
  • 4+ years of professional experience in a global business. Experience in one or more of the following fields strongly preferred: investment banking, strategy or financial consulting, corporate strategy, corporate development, or corporate finance.
  • Demonstrated track record of financial and analytical skills, including valuation methodologies. Strong accounting background a plus.
  • Experience participating in M&A transactions, including screening, and analyzing potential opportunities and conducting due diligence is required.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), negotiation skills and a collaborative/team approach to execution.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, work within a cross functional team environment and communicate effectively with multiple constituents.
  • Unquestionable ethics and humility
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally

  • Understanding of industrial markets and applications
  • Understanding of competitive market positioning and competitive dynamics
  • Experience of working in a lean decentralized environment
  • Keen technology orientation
