Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to work closely with other Engineering colleagues to deliver projects to specification and on time and supporting the Chief Engineer in developing design processes and ensuring product technical excellence. The successful candidate will be required to provide cover in the absence of the Senior / Chief Engineers. Ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering background; with knowledge and experience of working in a rotating machinery environment. Successful candidate will be a team player with leadership and communication style which is motivating and engaging individuals and teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and prepare working designs from customer specification details and then progress to production in reasonable timescale
  • Seek most cost effective solutions
  • Produce component detail drawings to BS8888 and ISO1101.
  • Progress details through approval process.
  • Produce detailed works instructions and material specifications.
  • Work closely with design and application engineers.
  • Produce drawings and design calculations.
  • Help develop automated methods for design calculations.
  • Support new product development and continuous improvement.
  • Produce and amend Bills of Material and supporting documentation
  • Must understand technical and professional aspects of work and continually maintain technical knowledge.
  • Quality of drawings and structures
  • Delivery against drawing due date
  • Identify improvement opportunities
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement activities
  • Ability to work flexibly to achieve tight deadlines and targets

Skills and Experience Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • A minimum of 1 years related mechanical design experience
  • Experience with 3D Inventor or 2D Auto CAD
  • Ability to translate concepts into drawings accurately and neatly
  • Ability to work flexibly to achieve tight deadlines and targets
  • A dynamic team player with positive attitude


Minimum Education requirements

In order to be considered for this role a candidate must be able to satisfy the following requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) or Higher National Certificate / Diploma with appropriate industrial experience.
  • Experience of using a 3D CAD package is essential
