Job Description

SUMMARY

Manager, Indirect Sourcing & Logistics will be responsible for managing Indirect & Logistics projects, identifying spend categories where Altra operating companies would benefit from corporate procurement commodity management, and executing appropriate strategies for the selected spend categories. Activities include gathering and analyzing spend and price data, identifying opportunities for consolidated negotiations based on operating company data, evaluating and selecting preferred suppliers, negotiating and implementing price agreements, managing and improving supplier performance, leading workshops and kaizens, training other associates on Altra sourcing tools & processes, analyzing, reporting, and monitoring project savings against policy deployment goals.  This position is part of the Corporate team that has responsibility for approximately $250 million ($200 million Indirect, $50 million Logistics) per year in purchased goods and logistics services. 

There is flexibility for this role to be in one of the following Altra locations:  Braintree, MA; Radford, VA; Charlotte, NC; South Beloit, IL

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical support for Indirect & Logistics
  • Gather spend data to identify trends and opportunities for consolidation and leverage
  • Lead or facilitate indirect sourcing and logistics workshops
  • Develop and implement strategies, goals and measurements for successful spend management in Logistics and targeted Indirect categories (Office Supplies, Wireless, Fleet, Travel, Marketing, HR, Facilities/MRO, IT, EH&S, and others)
  • Establish and lead commodity teams, through a “dotted line” support organization, for targeted spend categories, as appropriate
  • Lead or participate in cross-business savings projects, process improvements and drive/monitor results
  • Prepare and execute bid packages utilizing RFIs, RFPs, and reverse auctions
  • Evaluate marketplace trends and provide price and budget guidance to operating companies for targeted spend categories
  • Implement robust communication mechanisms with operating company associates to gather their business requirements, gain regular input on strategies, and ensure their understanding and commitment to strategies for targeted categories
  • Must be willing and able to travel on a regular basis (30-40%)

Education and Experience Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in business, supply chain or industrial engineering
  • 7+ years overall business experience with at least 5 years of that in Sourcing, Logistics, Indirect, Supply Chain, or Procurement role
  • Strong background in Logistics is preferred (to include Trade/Import Compliance, Carrier Management, 3rd party freight payment process)
  • Policy Deployment Experience & knowledge of ABS or LEAN principals
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work comfortably in ambiguous situations, know how to resolve conflicts and have a proven track record of achieving analytical & project results
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural, cross functional environment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in communicating concepts and recommendations and gaining acceptance and commitment
  • Possess well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem resolution skills and root cause analysis experience
  • Full proficiency in use of computer tools including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Exchange for effective analysis and communication
