This critical role plans, schedules, and manages the efficient movement of material from receiving to the production.  Provides strategic and tactical leadership of the Materials function.  Develops raw material requirements and scheduling requirements from engineering specifications and production schedules.  Negotiate lead times with suppliers and manage schedule for timely delivery.  Supervise other department members and provide a point of contact when Materials Manager is unavailable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibilities of this position include initiating purchase orders, initiating non-productive orders, interviewing sales regarding new products and technology, and advising Engineering/Manufacturing.
  • Lead the Materials Team to achieve high performance with quality products, on-time delivery, price, and payment terms.
  • Foster relationships within and outside the department to contribute to positive employee engagement.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in inventory management including inventory reduction, turns and E&O management while continuing to meet delivery targets.
  • Review production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and bottlenecks relating to materials to prevent operational delays.
  • Responsible for follow-up, expediting and de-expediting purchase orders, selecting and evaluating vendors, and handling special projects (cost reductions, value analysis, vendor certification, engineering requested projects, and annual blanket orders).
  • Establishes standard costs for existing and new parts, processes requests for quotes, coordinates material movement, review/authorize invoices.
  • Organize and lead the yearly physical inventory in partnership with Finance.
  • Execute PSI Review and Kanban stock updates.
  • Leads daily management of logistics reviews and monthly logistic spend reporting and disposition freight claims.
  • Manage daily department QDIP process.
  • Ensure controls, policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by all team members and customers.
  • Support goal and objective obtainment for team members to achieve successful operational results.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) with a minimum of five years’ experience and/or training in materials management.
  • Supply Chain degree concentration, APICS or CPM a plus.
  • Materials management experience including purchasing and materials planning.
  • Understanding of concepts in a Lean Manufacturing environment and Kanban required.
  • 3PL/Logistics experience desirable.
