Job Description

Portescap’s New Product Development (NPD) Manager leads the transfer of new motor designs from Prototype to Production. The NPD team is responsible for ensuring the manufacturability of new motor designs on the production floor, from the development and validation of the motor assembly processes to the training of operators to facilitate the build. The NPD Manager is responsible for all NPD team activities as well as project planning and coordination of the cross-functional team including the Commercial Team, R&D, Supply Chain, Quality, and Manufacturing. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering strong manufacturing results through managing cross-functional teams and projects via a structured process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the Product Development process, owning the transition from Prototype to Production
  • Plan and manage all aspects of New Product Development projects, instilling a sense of urgency with the cross-functional team to meet customer quality and delivery expectations
  • Manage the NPD Engineering team member(s) and perform related engineering tasks as required to meet customer commitments
  • Lead product and process validation activities via formal tools (e.g., PPAP, APQP, FMEA)
  • Troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues using effective problem-solving / RCCM
  • Work with customers to identify & meet their validation and documentation requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement for safety, quality, delivery, and productivity in NPD

Education and Experience Requirements


  • S. in Industrial, Mechanical, or similar engineering discipline (M.S. a plus), equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years manufacturing experience is required
  • At least 2 years project management experience is required
  • Experience with formal product and process validation tools is required
  • Prior people management experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical test equipment is preferred
  • Experience with mechanical or electrical component and tool/fixture design is preferred
  • Experience with molding processes a plus
