Job Description

This position is responsible for directing the manufacturing operations of the Thomson Linear San Jose BU.  Thomson Linear is an Altra operating company. The position is responsible for providing leadership, managing and directing the manufacturing of quality products that are delivered on time to customer-required dates and within budget.  Manufacturing will be completed in a safe and clean work environment.  The position is accountable for achieving product cost targets, maintaining proper inventory levels, and a minimum overhead structure using lean tools and principals.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Production and Operations Management:  Responsible for all production functions associated with the manufacture of these products and for operating the plant within approved budget including achieving product cost/margin forecasts.  Accountable for providing accurate shipment forecasts and achieving said forecast. Promotes the implementation and use of lean tools to drive continuous process improvements on quality, delivery, and cost. Maintains a clean and safe work environment that is in compliance with all OSHA and EPA related regulations and guidelines.  Responsible for the maintenance of the production equipment and facilities assigned to the Business Unit.
  • Associate Development:  Responsible for developing associates and integrating new members in a manner which meets the future needs of the business and annually preparing an HR plan to identify key contributors and opportunity areas for organizational and individual’s development.
  • Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering:  Responsible for leading the production start up phase for new product introduction utilizing manufacturing engineering resources.  Also responsible for driving lower product costs by reducing set up times, improving processes and reducing cycle times.
  • Nature and Scope:  Must exercise continuous leadership to focus plant efforts on priorities and be technically proficient to “troubleshoot” process and systems related upsets.  A strong commitment to safety, quality, on-time delivery and cost reduction is required as well as availability.  An associate in this position must focus on customer expectations, prevent problems and strive for continuous improvement. Strong presence on the shop floor (Gemba) is a must

 

Job Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience required.  Engineering major preferred.  Advanced business degree beneficial.
  • Minimum of ten years overall manufacturing management experience is required with at least five years in a similar manufacturing environment preferred.  Experience within the Motion Control Industry is a plus.
  • Extensive experience utilizing Lean Tools to achieve sustained breakthrough improvements and specific experience with cellular manufacturing, process improvement, and new product introduction is required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel international and domestic by all forms of transportation.  Travel is occasional.
