Job Description

The Production Planner is responsible for analyzing the planning function of the manufacturing facility. As a liaison between the production, procurement and sales teams, the Planner will ensure timely execution of customer orders. The Planner will actively participate in cross-functional teams to insure a continuous improvement of process, productivity, and delivery of products. The Planner coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to daily and weekly production schedules.  Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure daily production requirements are achieved to meet customer expectations.
  • Analyze and prepare routers and other documents needed for production.
  • Manage standard manufacturing lead times.
  • Data analysis and decision making to support raw material supply and finished goods demand.
  • Create production schedule and prioritizes job-orders for production optimization.
  • Maintain the production scheduled and other reports as required.
  • Follow-up as required with all teams to expedite flow of materials and documents to meet production schedule and customer expectation.
  • Interact with shop floor managements on a daily basis to resolve issues regarding manufacturing efficiencies or additional information as requested from manufacturing and/or customer service.
  • Manage daily purchasing requirements for existing inventoried items (RFQs, POs, Correspondence, Change Notices, Logistics, Expediting, Invoicing concerns).
  • Monitor and update purchase order requirement dates and quantities.
  • Coordinate with procurement, shipping and receiving to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Actively support the implementation of Altra’s Business System/ Lean manufacturing processes.
  • Manage replenishment systems such as kanban, visual signals, etc.

Job Requirements

Critical Competencies

  • Experience with planning in the manufacturing industry a plus.
  • Understanding of ERP system and Microsoft Office products; strong computer skills.
  • Strong organizational and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detain-oriented, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Good customer service/phone skills and flexibility for handling a wide range of activities.
  • Demonstrate personal time management skills.
  • Flexible and able to react to changes as needed.
  • Set the example by actively contributing to department and company goals.
  • Take initiative and seek additional training or direction as needed.
  • Develop and achieve departmental/company goals and controls. Make suggestions for improvement in areas of cost reduction, processes, quality and productivity.

Education and Experience Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a planning capacity.
  • Previous experience with SAP preferred.
  • Knowledge of production processes and lead times a plus.
