Job Description

Nuttall Gear Inc. is a division of Altra Industrial Motion and the leading global supplier of quality power transmission products to most major industrial markets including, but not limited to power generation, steel processing, transportation, mixing applications and lock / dam / bridge operations. 

The primary function of the Nuttall Quality Manager position is to manage the quality assurance function which includes; supervision of quality control personnel, establishing plant quality standards, leading quality improvement activities, interact with customers to resolve quality issues and provide quality documentation, develop and audit suppliers and maintain all required quality certifications, such as ISO certification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works effectively and professionally with customers on all quality-related issues, responding thoroughly and with a sense of urgency.
  • Leads, coordinates & audits efforts to maintain on-going certification to ISO 9001:2015 system requirements.
  • Evaluates data and coordinates resources to determine sources of quality nonconformances and applies proper problem-solving techniques to implement root cause corrective actions on the processes.
  • Evaluates supplier quality and assists suppliers in their quality improvement activities.
  • Evaluates field failures and returned goods to determine root cause and recommends and/or implements corrective actions.
  • Supervise hourly and salaried quality assurance department associates.
  • Oversees gauge calibration system to ensure reliability and compliance with ISO quality system requirements.
  • Collects appropriate data to properly evaluate quality trends in the production process and takes the necessary steps to correct or improve through presentation of the data and engagement of the appropriate people.
  • Determines appropriate methods to satisfy internal & customer specifications and establishes procedures to properly control the process.
  • Establish and maintain a robust system to collect and organize internal & customer-required documentation.
  • Manages supplier quality through supplier visits, process audits, and appropriate communications during the production process.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, BS Engineering or relevant technical discipline is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Five or more years experience in quality assurance in mechanical products, preferably in gearing or other power transmission products.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience.

QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
  • Strong experience as a leader in the ISO-9001 certification process is required.
  • Proven problem solving and root cause analysis skills are required.
  • Statistical process analysis experience, process mapping skills, and strong Microsoft office skills required.
  • Knowledge of SAP is desired.
  • Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Auditor a plus.
  • Lean manufacturing experience desired.
  • Willing and able to work extended hours, including weekends as required, in order to support manufacturing needs.
  • Willing and able to occasionally travel domestically and internationally to other Altra sites, vendor and/or customer visits, training events etc.
