Job Description
We are seeking to fill a Sr. Electronics Component Engineer position located in Radford, VA or Santa Barbara, CA. This role is well suited for a person who interested in working in a hands-on and team-oriented environment.
In this role, the candidate will work with supply chain / materials, operations, EMS suppliers, component brokers, product line managers, engineering, product compliance engineering and product environmental compliance (PEC) groups to sustain and support continued production of existing circuit board designs. The candidate will be responsible for component engineering tasks for servomotor drives and embedded motion controllers.
A qualified candidate should have strong problem-solving abilities. Interest and willingness to work and contribute within a collaborative team is a must.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
- Leads activities to ensure sustainability of existing product designs
- Identify and qualify alternate sources for components due to End of Life (EOL), long lead times or cost reduction.
- Work with brokers to test, qualify, and mitigate against counterfeit and non-compliant parts for non-stocked components (including PEC compliance)
- Manage first article inspection (FAI) approvals for key components.
- Work with supply chain to manage supply for EOL components (e.g. Last time buys)
- Work with engineering on PCBA re-spin plans and schedules for EOL components
- Work with the product compliance team on the impact and changes to UL and Agency documentation for component changes
- Work with the PEC compliance team on impact and changes to RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals and other compliance documentation
- Support supply chain to qualify a new EMS or PCBA vendor for a product.
- Create and implement test plans to qualify alternate component sources.
- Implement necessary Engineering Changes Orders (ECOs), Deviations and Product Change Notices (PCNs), Supplier Change Requests (SCRs).

Job Requirements

- Good understanding of engineering documents (Schematics, Component Data Sheets, PCB Layout, and product specifications)

- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from inspectors, managers, suppliers, and groups of engineers.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with solder rework
- Familiarity with the use of oscilloscopes, and digital multi-meters
- Familiarity with requirements for Conflict Materials, RoHS, REACH and SCIP Database
- Familiarity with UL, CE, CSA, TUV and other agency certifications
- Familiarity with Lifecycle analysis tools (e.g. Silicon Expert)
- Familiarity with Engineering Change Documentation (ECOs, Deviations)
- Familiarity with a MRP system (e.g. Oracle)
Education and Experience Requirements
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field required
- 8+ years’ related experience preferred
