SUMMARY

The Value Stream Manager reports directly to the Operations Manager, and is responsible for safety, quality, delivery, and cost for the assigned value stream.

• Manage the activities of the shop floor, under the direction of the Operations Manager and follow established procedures and approved processes.
• Supervise all production operations such as machining, processing and assembly.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate departmental activities to fulfill sales orders, meet inventory requirements, and deliver manufactured products in a timely fashion.
• Supervise all value stream associates in all 3 shifts.
• Daily Standard Work Gemba Walk 1: Arrange support requirements (Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Materials), deals with all personnel issues, and reviews and responds to expedite requests. Gemba Walk 2: Deal with abnormalities, check performance metrics at all cells in the value stream, and follow up on expedite requests
• Weekly Standard Work: Gemba walk with Operations Manager, verify Team Leader adherence to standard work, formal audit of standard work in one area, review status of visual controls, and lead continuous improvement meeting.
• Maintain proper staffing within the value stream.
• Other projects and duties may be assigned.

• Will have a thorough knowledge of all manufacturing methods, techniques, and related equipment. Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications. Must be familiar with product construction and application. Must have complete knowledge of production scheduling and shop operations. This position requires that the person be a highly organized, self- motivated individual who can work independently. Must have strong leadership skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations. Will be computer literate, particularly in shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control applications. Working knowledge of lean or TPS principles. High mix / low volume machine shop experience.
• The ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, general business periodicals, professional journals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical and procedure manuals and government regulations. Ability to write routine reports, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and business correspondences. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees and managers, customers, clients, and the general public.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
