Job Description

The Value Stream Manager is responsible for the operation of the Portescap-US Machine Shop in West Chester, PA.  Key deliverables for this position are managing the cross functional value stream team to achieve the key performance indicators established for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.  Demonstrating strong leadership skills and effective use of LEAN tools to continually improve the team’s performance is a critical part of this role.

This role is part of the Portescap team in West Chester, PA. Portescap is part of Altra.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Along with those identified below, other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead the cross functional team to identify and focus on the critical few actions that will achieve the Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost metrics identified for the value stream
  • Set above metrics that will drive the business forward and meet the growing demands of our customers
  • Instill sense of urgency with team around meeting safety, customer quality and delivery, and cost expectations.
  • Evaluate Value Stream capacity requirements to meet the business requirements.
  • Lead Root Cause Counter Measures (RCCM) actions with team for issues that prohibit meeting key performance indicators
  • Own and utilize visual management via the SQDIP and prioritization boards
  • Maintain a staff of motivated salaried individuals and associates through regular performance feedback and supporting individual development
  • Hire and assess performance of new hires at the staff level
  • Identify VSM gaps and execute a strategy to reduce them
  • Embrace the culture of continuous improvement. Lead the group through concrete examples of improvement/Kaizen events
  • Support cross-functional initiatives as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Manufacturing management experience
  • Machining environment experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Leadership skills including ability to drive and focus a team on the critical few
  • Team player
  • Results focus, manages details well
  • Ability to troubleshoot and implement root cause countermeasures
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience in Quality Management System preferred
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience is desired
